Quarantine and Chill

Journal entry 1
Quartatine life is hard. All of us are in college without the actual experience of going to college. After a while, class started becoming a routine in a good way. But with that routine comes the lack of motivation to actually do the work being assigned, which makes actually doing the work feel harder than it actually is. Other than that, online classes were not really different from normal classes, I got more breaks though.
I don't normally consider myself somebody who gets nervous when showcasing themselves, but I definitely felt like that some of the time especially when presenting my work. This was also supported by the barber shops being closed. It was really hard to stay focused, but I had this app that would block certain social media so I could stay focused, but it wouldn't really work as effectively because then I would just walk around. Setting more than enough time to do something works really well because I like to procrastinate, so I like to trick myself with due dates.
One day, your life can change in a second, and it's important to try and not get too overwhelmed and keep moving forward.

Audio portrait synopsis

I am going to interview my sister, Dessiree.
I want to tell the story of the birth of her child.
The beginning is the experience of going to the hospital and labor,
the middle is the first experiences of life
and the end is how it feels to be a mother 2 months in.
The story is going to address the complications of childbirth and the emotions
that parents go through for their children. Certain themes of family and love and life.

Describe the story of your labor experience.

How did you feel knowing your child was going to finally be born.

How was your birth process?

How did you feel during the complications?

What was it like when you held your baby for the first time.

What was your hospital experience? 

How much worrying did you endure?

Are there any challenges with being a new parent?

Shot List!

Risa and I decided to shoot at the entrance of Hunter College on B1. The shots will be taken by the escalator and by the security guard/entrance. The location has dim lighting and has periods of ‘Rush Hour’ that is caused when a train arrives at the station and a bunch of people arrive. The Dim lighting can be symbolic of darkness or loneliness.

There are also a bunch of people who go to school together and don't say a single word to each other. This conveys a sense of unfamiliarity and isolation, especially tied with the dim lighting. We might face some challenges in creating the perfect shots of few people entering the college and as well as a lot of people entering the college. It would be beneficial to take the photos at night to help convey the dim lighting.

Artisitc Statement

Creativity is pretty important to me, alongside action and adventure. Art is usually an escape for me, a breach into the unknown world. Where the impossible can become possible. I also believe that the person that makes the art is worth more than the art itself. Two people creating a similar piece of art will be different for everyone. For example, the personality of an artist that is portrayed through the art piece creates a sense of authenticity and individuality that is amazing. This kind of ideology applies to creators such as musicians which I heavily enjoy. People like Lil Nas X, who are amicable and fun, make the art that they produced more enjoyable for me. That is how I want to portray my art. Humor is also important to me, and I'm passionate about a good adventure, story which is why I play an enormous amount of video games. The lore and action that is expressed through a first person experience is extremely intriguing and captivating. Like a crazy video game with a bunch of fight scenes and backstories is amazing. Games like Overwatch and Kingdom Hearts are prime examples of art pieces that have a lot of characters with personalities and lore that create enjoyment. The games are filled with action and adventure as well. I would like to express that humor and personality, through videos and digital art. A person's personality lives through the art, where people can come and hang and have a good time.
